Kateisms - October 19

A summary of the past week:

Last week was very busy and exciting for Kate! She watched Sesame Street Live with 8 of her best pals (it's official, she still adores Abby), visited Universal Studios for the first time (now is a big fan of the Cat in the Hat), and the zoo (monkeys, elephants and leopards, oh my!).

Seasome Street Live: 29 people, including moms, dads & children. All of the kids were awesome and had eyes glued to the show nearly the entire time. The show itself was about 5 minutes too long as evidenced by the amount of squirming and whining that commenced at that point. Of all the characters, whenever Kate saw Abby, she'd yell out her name.

Universal Studios: We had a terrific time riding Cat in the Hat, The Fishies and the Carousel over and over again. She also met The Cat in the Hat, Sam I Am and Curious George along with the man in the yellow hat. She ran around in the Curious George splash area just like her older cousin Gabby used to do and then watched Barney. She's never seen the show and only has two Barney books, but yet she is completely enamored with the purple dinosaur. Kate took a little cat nap in the stroller and lasted the whole day from about 10:30a-5:00p!

Central Florida Zoo: Kate and I visited the zoo during the summer, but it was hot and icky, so we waited until now to go back. We had two visits to the zoo this week and boy did Kate love seeing the animals. As soon as I said we were going to the zoo, she said, "monkeys, elephants! animals!" She mostly loves sticking her head through the boards that have painted pictures of animals and running around like a wild animal herself.

Pumpkin Patch: Kate visited a local church's pumpkin patch last week and had a great time running around and touching all the pumpkins. This has only enhanced her current obsession with everything Halloween (see below)...

The Kateisms of the Week:

"Hold Me": Kate says this whenever you are holding something she wants to hold or whenever she wants you to hold something she is holding. In some cases, she actually means, "hold me."

The Hippy Run: When Kate walks fast or runs she throws her hips into it and really gets a little wiggle going. We're going to try to catch in on video and post it because describing it will not do it justice. To see it, you can't help but giggle.

Ghosts! Scarecrows! Pumpkins! Witches! All new fun words in Kate's vocabulary this week. We hung ghosts from our front tree and Kate has made it part of her routine to visit them a few times a day. When we pull out of the driveway, she says "bye-bye ghosts" and when we come home, she says "see ghosts..." and insists on visiting them before going in the house. She also is smitten by the inflatable Tigger down the street...about 5 houses down. "See Tigger...See Tigger!" She makes us walk down to visit a couple times a day. We have a scarecrow in our yard and one hanging on the pantry door. She loves to point to them and say "scarecrow" though it comes out nothing like that...which is rare for her these days. She's actually very good at parroting so when she has trouble saying a word, I'm surprised. For instance, she said gentleman today, but still cannot get raisin right. Keith's personal favorite right now is witch...it comes out sounding like female dog and he thinks its funny, so of course she is starting to say that quite a bit right now.

Daddy Do It/Mommy Do It/Kate Do It: Kate knows what she wants and isn't afraid to verbalize it. Keith and I were surprised to hear her ask for us to "do" specific things with her this week. For instance at bath time, she says, "daddy do it." Then, when it's time to go to bed, she says, "mommy do it..." She does this for all kinds of other things from playing, going for a walk outside, getting a snack, etc. And, yes, even in her sleep.

A Sleep Talker: Not only does Kate talk all day long, but she is fairly talkative in her sleep, too! Mostly she cries out for mommy or daddy, but she'll also talk about the day she had...Mickey and Minnie, or whatever is on her mind, apparently!
