September 2011:
- "I have the best daddy in the world!:
- "I like the Beatles way more better" (unprompted comment while listening to the Monkey's)
- "I stole that one because I like croutons" (explanation for why she took a crouton off my salad)...
- "Mr. Turnoff!" (the name she gave to the Mr. Sunshine nightlight when he's not "on")
- "Ok, Fine" (with emphasis on "FIIIIIINE") OMG, what have we created????
- "Where did the one that loves me go?" (in reference to Aunt Heike who came for a visit and stepped outside momentarily...Kate missed her immediately).
- "It smells disgusting in here..." (in reference to the changing area at the zoo splash park--daddy had her for the day and took her to the changing area instead of changing her in public).
- "I want someone real to keep me company" (in reference to the fact that Kate always wants us to snuggle with her at bedtime and we tell her that's what Lovie and all the other stuffed animals are for). Really, who can blame her? I sleep with someone every night!!! Life's so unfair sometimes.
December 2010:
Pretty please? When Kate wants something, she has learned the art of tilting her head and talking ever so sweetly and saying, "pretty please may I have another pretzel....candy cane...chocolate...or whatever she has her eye on at the moment.
Oh My Goodness: This one has really become a favorite over the holidays. Every time she sees a decoration (i.e, inflatable lawn ornament) or really bright display, she'll say, "oh my goodness!" She also said it whenever she saw something she really liked when opening gifts.
Boogies!! Kate has already had a few little colds this winter season. Every time her nose is dripping, she yells, "boogies!" It's so annoying. Keith and I have been working very hard to teach her to say, "tissue, please!" We almost have her converted...right now it comes out "boogies, please!"
September 2010:
Play with Me! Okay, so this is better than "go away..." which was pretty popular a few months back, but Kate really enjoys playing with me (Keith, Aunt Jen, Papa Paul...really anyone who will sit down and play with her). It gets annoying in the middle of dinner prep or when I'm trying to do laundry, but again, I just remind myself of the alternative and usually work out a parallel play situation if I'm not available at the moment.
No Way, Jose! Not sure exactly where this came from, but I'm pretty sure I've said it more than once to her. She's pretty cute when she says it. I like it better than the straight up "no!"
Dry My Tears, Mommy!: Kate has been a bit quick to cry for the past week (like I firmly tell her no or to go do something, the waterworks begin). The funniest thing is she does not like the sensation of tears on her face and immediately begins crying more and asking me to dry her tears. I keep telling her that she has to stop crying for me to dry her tears!!! She usually starts crying more before she finally stops crying.
No Pony, Mommy: Kate is not fond of the pony tail. Whenever I'm wearing one, she pretty much demands I take it out... I don't, but that doesn't stop her from telling me she doesn't like it. The other day, when I was dressed to go to a professional meeting, I went in to pick her up out of her crib. She said, "I like you like this mommy."
No Buttons, Daddy: As adament as she is about my hair, she is equally so for Keith's work shirts. They aren't even button downs...just polo shirts, but she does not like those buttons and asks him to change before she'll hug him! This has evolved to "I don't like your buttons" which she says as soon as she sees him in the morning or when he comes home. And, it's expanded to my buttons and buttons on her shirts as well. I can't wait until she figures out I have buttons on my pants!
"I like you just the way you are": I mentioned this before (see July below), but I want to always remember today when she said it to me while we were at Kindermusik during the "resting" portion of class. They put on quiet music and we all lay on the floor. She looked at me and smiled and said it. My heart melted and I told her I like her just they way she is, too.
August 2010:
I'm proud of you - she said one morning while I was sharing my yogurt.
Daddy's a goof ball - I had a weak moment when we were at Sea World and Keith followed us out of the Sesame Beach show giving up our great seats when I was rushing to change a diaper before the show began. I said this out of frustration. She immediately repeated it and I told her how much daddy does NOT like to be called this and that it isn't nice. Weeks later, as I'm mis-buckle Kate in the car, I say, Mommy's a goof ball! And she says, "No, Daddy's a goof ball..." Whoops.
It's a beautiful day - the humorous part is that when she first started saying this it often was a cloudy, awful day! She gets it right 9 times out of 10 today and even applies it to a day that is just going well.
July 2010:
I like you just the way you are, mommy. Like Zoe - We have a book titled "Just the Way You Are" and it features Elmo and Zoe. One day when I was talking with Keith about the way I look or something, she chimed in with this. Precious.
I have no chance! - She replies to me one night at the dinner table after I told her she had one more chance to use her manners or she was going to sit in her chair. Hmm. Somehow, she was right.
Mommy Not Pretty, yet/Mommy Pretty - As I stepped out of the shower one morning, she says, "mommy not pretty yet." (quite matter of factly, I might add). Later on as we are driving to our play date and I am applying lipstick I see her in the rear view mirror and she says, "mommy pretty." Well at least she redeemed herself! This has become part of her regular repertoire and includes me not being pretty whenever I'm wearing a pony tail or hat.
I'm checking e-mail - She says as she pulls out her cash register and starts typing away on the buttons. Clearly I need to put the computer away!
